Whether we’re birthing a babies, businesses, or books…

Birth is a fluid, nonlinear, feminine process. It can stall, light-speed forward, then arrive in the past.  Yet it unfolds within a trustworthy cycle that has distinct rhythms.

Understanding our progress through these rhythms allows us to relax into them, rest in time-tested wisdom, feel confident in the outcome, and experience it all with new depth of feeling.

The universal rhythms of creation ~

Longing + Conception ~ We ache to express our fullest being.  We crave expression of a new facet of ourselves that we haven’t even met yet.  Then suddenly, a miracle occurs: something new feels possible, yet you don’t quite believe it yet.  It’s exciting and powerful yet strange and mysterious.  We awaken with the seeds of our novel or the astonishing vision of our new career.  Can it truly happen?

2nd and 3rd Trimesters ~ Your creativity stabilizes.  Pause and honor the almost-fruition!  Here we do the work of nourishing our creation with time, energy, and devotion.  Yet soon fear enters: you’re pushing the limits of how big, loud, bold, and bright you can possibly become.  Discomfort sways into excitement.  Courage and doubt tango in your mind.  We work our craft daily.  Will I make it through?

Overdue ~ Urgency, discomfort, and fear arise:  will it ever come?  As women, we sense the windows of time and possibility when our creations can be be birthed into the world in a healthy way.  We must honor these life rhythms along with our burning desire to push through.  We sift through delays.  When, oh when? Patience…

Transition and Active Labor ~ We sense the time has come… yet often we pause midway.  Perhaps household necessities keep us from the final edit on our book.  Then finally our energy swells to superhuman and we know: the time is now.  Chaos and fear are normal.  Death graces us: the maiden must die for the mother to live; whatever part of you didn’t believe you were capable or worthy must die for your vision, voice, and new self to emerge.

The Push ~ In true feminine fashion, we now surrender to the process.  We don’t push: it’s being pushed through us.  Our body, nature, and the creative process take over, miraculously.  It’s up to us to stretch ourselves wider than we thought possible and allow.

Arrival and Beyond ~ The labor over, we meet our miracle for the first time.  That familiar unknown that we’d carried so long has finally emerged into the world.  We share our precious gift, and begin the laborious bliss of sustaining, supporting, and nurturing it.  We go on our book tour, showcase our artwork, and dance our newfound courage.
