How to Teach Your Man About the Moon Tent
by Indigo on Apr.26, 2012, under Women's culture
Do you live with a spiritual, sensitive man that you love dearly?
Even though he’s wonderful, do you sometimes feel like you’re living with someone from an alien race?
Every 25 days or so, do you start thinking that it’s pretty ridiculous for men and women to live together?
You’re not alone!
Long ago, someplace not so far away from where you’re living right now, there was something called the Moon Lodge, the Moon Tent, the Red Tent, or the Women’s Lodge.
You’ve heard about it. And somewhere in your cells ~
You remember it.
The Moon Lodge is a place where the women of the tribe go to separate from men, children, and the daily responsibilities of the household ~ to Flow with the Moon.
When we Flow With the Moon, we’re the most powerful we’ll be all month.
A spiritual window opens as our bodies open to release the possibility of childbearing. During our feminine cycles we’re touched by the miraculous tides and forces of life, death, creation, and the unavoidable destruction that makes way for the new.
As our bodies renew themselves, we’re given the blessing and opportunity to also begin again anew.
As we prepare to renew ourselves, there’s a fire within.
If we pay attention, we can feel that heat in our body and soul. We get ‘red hot’ before and during our Moon Time and the purpose of this inner fire is to purify. We become a vortex of change.
How can we honor this inner fire and purification when we’re expected to go on with life as usual?
For most of us there is no Moon Tent, so what do we do?
CREATE IT.
You don’t need to have a physical place to go in order to separate yourself from that which doesn’t serve your process of purification and renewal.
Here are 3 simple ways to create a modern Moon Tent~
{1} If you live with a man who you share responsibilities with, educate him. Tell your man that you’re at your most powerful during this time just before and during your Moon Time. Remind him of what it’s like when the power of Moon Time is not respected and harnessed {surely he’s familiar with dragon lady}. Come up with a clear agreement about which household and relational responsibilities you can release for a few days to focus on your inner process.
Remind him that he likes you a lot more when you are soft, open, and feminine and that you need to honor your feminine cycles in order to BE FEMININE!
{2} Do what you can to separate from your daily responsibilities and be with yourself. Consider taking a half day off from work to get a massage, or maybe a longer lunch break for a quiet walk in nature. If you’re a full time mama, consider setting up a little extra childcare so you can relax and do some journaling, or ask another mama in the community to take your little ones for an hour or two, so that you can take a bath in the middle of the day. {Or maybe this is the perfect time to set up your kids with an audio book or some other thoroughly engaging activity!}
{3} Reduce socializing during this time so that you can focus inward. Take time to reflect on the cycle that’s ending. Contemplate what you wish to invoke in this next cycle. Give yourself quiet time so that you can reap the magic of this inner fire of renewal.
